Lev Vygotsky (1896-1934) was a Russian born Cultural Historical Psychologist, and was best known for his work focusing on Developmental Psychology. Within this, he formed theories that saw human cognitive development as emerging through interpersonal connections and actions with the social environment. He firmly believed that the role of the community and social interactions were pivotal in the process of constructing meaning (McLeod, 2014).
What made Vygotsky stand apart from other cognitive psychologists was his work in the following areas: |
The role of culture on cognitive development
The role of social factors on cognitive development
The role of adults on cognitive development
The role of language on cognitive development
